A Passion Re-visited:Painting with Watercolors

A fun little fact about me: I paid the bills in college by selling my original acrylic paintings and charcoal/graphite portraits. One medium that I always wanted to play with but never did, for reasons beyond me, are watercolors. Recently, I have been itching to get back to my fine-arts roots so I decided to go out of my comfort zone and play with watercolors. I’ve learned a bunch from my first attempt (ie: don’t use watercolors on canvas…or at least you can…but it wasn’t my favorite. lol)

Here was my first attempt at watercoloring- a portrait of my nephew. I painted it for my sister-in-law but it was one of those things where once you make it, you feel reeealllyyy bad for giving it to them because you don’t want them to feel obligated to hang it up anywhere, but then at the same time you already posted it on social media so you didn’t want to NOT give it to them so they’re not all like “Hey, where’s that craptastic photo you arts and crafted”.  hahahaha
^Longest run-on sentence ever. I can hear my intermediate teacher, Mrs. Peters, scolding me for that one. 😉

So if you get anything out of this post, other than the awesome verbiage of “craptastic”, I hope it inspires you to go try something out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s trying a new food, picking up an old hobby, or perhaps starting a new hobby, go do something you’ve been wanting to.  With that, I shall leave you to it. 😉

Jenn
