I am a very proud member of a group of local photographers called The Tampa Shutter Sisters. These women help inspire and uplift one another on a daily basis. One of our sisters, Emily, challenges us with a monthly blog post topic. For the month of March, it is “what are your favorite black and white photos”.
I have always loved, Loved, LOVED black and white photos. There’s something timeless and classic about them that derive such emotion out of a single moment. I love color images too, but black and white hold a special place in my heart. With a black and white photo, all of the chaos of color is removed, undressing the photo down to it’s bare bones, revealing the emotion that was captured in that split second.
Below, are some of my favorite black and white photos that I have taken.

My grandmother reminiscing on her 80th birthday. Two days before her birthday she suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. To her surprise, we threw her a huge birthday party in the hospital room. Her two brothers, the last of her living siblings, joined the party and surprised her on her special day. (The photo below captured the moment when they walked into the room)
My son being “three”. 😉
The loves of my life, giving me snuggles.
