Shining Light on Albinism
The first time I saw one of my dear friend’s daughter in the hospital, she was as bright and beautiful as a sunflower. I could not get over how beautiful she was, nor how light her blonde hair was. We joked that she could be my child since her hair was so light. After a few months, we all started to see what a rare little gem she actually was.
Fast forward what felt like an eternity for her family, Miss Baylee was officially diagnosed with albinism. Albinism is an inherited genetic condition that reduces the amount of melanin pigment found throughout the body in the eyes, skin and hair. Each person with albinism has a vision impairment. In fact, the vision impairment is actually the determining factor in a diagnosis of albinism. To learn more about albinism, visit the NOAH website.
Baylee is now two and a half and is such a shining light, not only in her family’s life, but in the community as well. Her beauty, spunky personality and wit brings so much joy to all of those around her. When Baylee turned one, her mother reached out and wanted to design a photoshoot specifically for her. Since her birthday is in the Fall, we designed a sunflower theme photoshoot. We thought it was only natural since she shines bright like the sun. <3
